Role of Krishi Sakhis in Promoting Natural Farming

Training Programme on “Natural Farming under the National Mission on Natural Farming (NMNF): Role of Krishi Sakhi in Extension Work” Conducted at Nadia Krishi Vigyan Kendra

Nadia Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) successfully organized a five-day training programme on “Natural Farming under the National Mission on Natural Farming (NMNF): Role of Krishi Sakhi in Extension Work” from 20–24 July 2026. The programme aimed to enhance the knowledge and skills of Krishi Sakhis for promoting natural farming and strengthening grassroots agricultural extension services.

The National Mission on Natural Farming (NMNF), an initiative of the Government of India, promotes natural farming as a sustainable, eco-friendly, and low-input agricultural production system. The mission focuses on reducing dependence on chemical inputs, improving soil health, conserving natural resources, promoting biodiversity, lowering cultivation costs, and enhancing the resilience of farming systems.

During the training, participants gained practical knowledge on the principles and practices of natural farming, including the preparation and application of Beejamrit, Jeevamrit, Ghanajeevamrit, Neemastra, Brahmastra, Agneyastra, Dashaparni Ark, and other locally available natural inputs. Sessions also emphasized the core principles of natural farming such as Beejamrit, Jeevamrit, Achhadana (mulching), Whapasa, and minimal soil disturbance.

The programme highlighted the crucial role of Krishi Sakhis in disseminating natural farming technologies and creating awareness among farmers and rural communities. Participants were trained to support farmer training programmes, demonstrations, field days, awareness campaigns, and exposure visits. They were also encouraged to facilitate access to technical guidance and government schemes while acting as an effective communication link between farmers, Krishi Vigyan Kendras, the Department of Agriculture, and other extension agencies.

A special session focused on engaging rural youth in natural farming and agri-entrepreneurship. The participants learned about opportunities in bio-input production, nursery raising, vermicomposting, value addition, marketing, and digital agricultural services, highlighting the potential of natural farming to generate sustainable livelihoods.

The training concluded with an interactive discussion on the future role of Krishi Sakhis as grassroots-level change agents under the National Mission on Natural Farming. Equipped with improved knowledge and practical skills, the participants are expected to contribute significantly to the wider adoption of natural farming practices, improved soil health, reduced cultivation costs, sustainable agricultural production, and overall rural development.

The programme reflects Nadia Krishi Vigyan Kendra’s continued commitment to promoting sustainable agriculture through capacity building, technology dissemination, and community-based extension initiatives.
